In Washington DC, Szczerski will hold meetings at the US National Security Council, the State Department, the Pentagon and the US Congress.

Szczerski will be joined by Paweł Soloch, the head of Poland's National Security Bureau (BBN), to discuss security policy, military cooperation, and current bilateral issues in talks with US National Security Advisor Gen. Herbert R. McMaster and under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon.

According to a statement by the Polish president’s office, another important element of Szczerski’s visit will be an in-depth discussion on Polish regional cooperation initiatives in Central Europe, including issues relating to the Three Seas Initiative.

The statement said the initiative – to strengthen ties between countries on the Baltic, Adriatic and Black seas – has “generated interest” in the US.

Szczerski will also discuss energy issues during a separate meeting with George David Banks, a Special Assistant to President Donald Trump.

In Washington, Szczerski will also meet leading think-tank experts and attend a conference on transatlantic relations organised by the German Marshall Fund.

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski was recently in Washington on the first official bilateral visit since the beginning of the Trump presidency. (rg)
