British Prime Minister Theresa May has suggested her governing Conservative party will vow to bring down net immigration to "tens of thousands" in its election manifesto ahead of June early parliamentary elections, the BBC reported.

The Polish community comprises the largest migrant population of EU nationals based in Britain.

It is estimated that up to one million Poles live in Britain, the majority of whom emigrated there after Poland joined the European Union in 2004.

Setting a net migration target was important “because of the impact that it has on people, the impact it has particularly on people at the lower end of the income scale and in terms of the pressure on public services,” May told supporters in London.

She added: "I think it is important that we continue, and we will continue, to say that we do want to bring net migration down to sustainable levels. We believe that is the tens of thousands."

The Reuters news agency reported that the Conservative government has repeatedly missed its target on migration levels since 2010.

May added: "Of course, once we leave the European Union we will have the opportunity to ensure that we have control of our borders here in the UK because we will be able to establish our rules for people coming in from the European Union into the UK.”
