The phone conversation on Monday morning lasted 30 minutes, according to the head of the Presidential Chancellery, Krzysztof Szczerski.

The yearly NATO summit will this year be held in Brussels on 24-25 May. Last year the summit, which brings together heads of states from the Alliance-member countries, was held in Warsaw.

“President Duda and Chancellor Merkel discussed the agenda for the summit and the position of the two countries, emphasising that Poland and Germany jointly advocate the sustainability of transatlantic ties and joint commitments on Alliance security,” Szczerski said.

He added that Duda and Merkel “confirmed their commitment to comply with the Wales and Warsaw summits” which were held in 2014 and 2016 respectively, “as well as strengthening the eastern flank”. (rg)
