“Manchester mourns the victims... Terrorism has once again affected the innocent. A monstrous act of violence to which there can be no consent,” Szydło wrote on Twitter.

At least 22 people, including children, died and some 60 were wounded in the blast as thousands of fans streamed out of a concert by US pop singer Ariana Grande through an entrance to Manchester Arena, northwest England, on Monday night.

Polish President Andrzej Duda wrote on Twitter: “Our thoughts and prayers are today with the young people - the victims of the terrorist attack in Manchester.”

There were no reports of Polish victims, Polish government spokesman Rafał Bochenek said.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said the incident was being treated as a terror attack. That makes it the biggest since the July 2005 London bombings in which 56 died, including three Poles.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Polish consul in Manchester was in contact with local authorities and was checking to see if any Polish citizens were among the victims.

The Polish Consulate General in Manchester has launched a special hotline for worried families: +44 (0) 77 69 97 57 19.

The foreign ministry in Warsaw appealed to Poles in Manchester to be particularly careful and to adhere to the recommendations of local authorities.

Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, head of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, addressed a message of condolence to the UK ambassador in Warsaw, Jonathan Knott.

He assured Knott of his prayers for the victims of the attack and of a spiritual bond with all those who suffered injuries and their families.

The archbishop has asked all people of good will in Poland to remain united in prayers with the United Kingdom at a time of mourning.
