A meeting with US President Donald Trump is also planned, but its format is not yet clear, according to Krzysztof Szczerski, the Polish president's chief of staff.

Ahead of the NATO summit, Andrzej Duda will meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Poland expects the NATO summit to “reaffirm the decisions” made by the military alliance at its Warsaw summit last year, Szczerski said on Wednesday.

Poland also expects to see a confirmation of Euro-Atlantic ties, Krzysztof Szczerski said when briefing reporters on President Duda’s plans for the Brussels meeting.

Moreover, NATO leaders are expected to confirm the mutual obligations of alliance members for military spending and armed force modernisation, said Szczerski.

He added that Poland is one of only five NATO countries that meet the Western military alliance’s target for defence spending at a level no lower than two percent of GDP.

For the first time Poland will be taking part in an alliance meeting as a country which is hosting NATO troops as well as a country that is a “provider” of security, Szczerski said. (rg/pk)
