Poland unsatisfied with UK guarantees for EU resident rights

Poland appreciates the intentions of the British Prime Minister to secure the rights of EU citizens residing in the UK, but considers them “incomplete”, Poland’s deputy foreign minister has said.

“We appreciate [UK PM Theresa May’s] intentions, but this offer does not meet all the criteria we agreed to ... within the EU as the minimum requirement for signing an agreement on this issue,” Polish deputy Foreign Minister in charge of European affairs, Konrad Szymański, said on Friday.
While in Brussels for a two-day summit, British PM Theresa May said EU citizens who had lived in Britain for five years or longer would be entitled to healthcare, education, welfare and pensions just like a UK national, but it remains unclear what other rights they will have, including if they can bring over family members.
There are some 3,000,000 EU nationals, including around 800,000 Poles, living in the UK. (rg)
