Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held talks with the leaders of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the gathering, the first Visegrad Group meeting organized by the Hungarian presidency.

At a joint press conference, Szydło said: "We expressed our appreciation and support for the stabilizing role of Egypt in the Middle East and North Africa. We talked about terrorism and illegal immigration. We are still concerned about the activities of the Islamic State and other terrorist groups on the Sinai Peninsula."

Szydło said Egypt “remains an important partner in the monitoring and control of illegal migration."

She added: “Our challenge and responsibility is to eliminate people trafficking and smuggling. We appreciate Egypt’s efforts to curb the activities of criminal groups and to guarantee assistance to refugees in need.”

Szydło said that talks with the Egyptian president also touched on opportunities for economic cooperation. She pointed out that Egypt is one of the most important economic partners for the Visegrad Group in North Africa.

The Visegrad Group is a platform aiming to boost regional cooperation. Poland assumed the presidency of the group in mid-2016, while Hungary took over on 1 July.
