Ukraine's Security Service announced on Friday that it has detained 29 people who allegedly planned to cause disruption in front of the Polish consulate in Kiev at the behest of Russian special services.

The Security Service (SBU) said that those detained were planning to spill red paint in front of the consulate, hang up a dummy and set fire to it.

"The aim of the disruption was to incite hatred, to exacerbate Ukrainian-Polish relations and to undermine Ukraine's authority on the international stage," said the SBU.

According to the SBU, the detainees are members of Kiev sports clubs and were paid to participate in disruptive activities.

This was the latest incident this year involving a Polish diplomatic mission in Ukraine. In late March, there was a grenade launcher attack on the Polish consulate in Lutsk.

The missile hit close to the residential part of the building, but no one was hurt. (mol/pk)
