The European Union will be represented by Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, and Jean Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission. Ukraine will be represented by its president, Petro Poroshenko.

The main day of debates during the July 12-13 summit will be Thursday.

“The summit in Kyiv will welcome the completion of the ratification of the association agreement [with Ukraine] and the recent entry into force of visa liberalisation for Ukrainian citizens, both of which are fundamental steps towards reinforcing the EU-Ukraine partnership,” the European Council said in a statement.

The EU concluded its association agreement with Ukraine on Tuesday.

This was “the final step of the ratification process through which the EU and Ukraine commit to a close, long-term relationship in all main policy areas,” the European Council said.

The European Council is an EU institution that sets out the bloc’s priorities. It consists of the heads of state or government of member countries, together with its president and the head of the European Commission.
