The United States could try to make a deal with China to exert pressure on North Korea, which conducted another nuclear test on Sunday, Poland’s Foreign Minister Waszczykowski has said.

China holds “the main instruments” for influencing North Korea, which is economically dependent on trade and cooperation with Beijing, Waszczykowski said on Monday.

At midnight Sunday Pyongyang-time, which was 5:30 am on Sunday in Warsaw, North Korea conducted its sixth and largest-ever nuclear test of an advanced hydrogen bomb for a long-range missile, marking a dramatic escalation of the regime’s stand-off with the United States and its allies, according to Reuters.

The Polish foreign ministry has condemned Sunday's test, saying it “dangerously escalated tensions in the region and could lead to unpredictable consequences.”

Warsaw has also called on Pyongyang to “immediately cease provocative activities.” (gs/pk)
