He was speaking at a meeting with his Bosnia and Herzegovina counterpart Marina Pendeš in Sarajevo.

Macierewicz also said Polish arms producers were ready to help Bosnia and Herzegovina modernise its armed forces.

"We are very impressed by the work that … Bosnia and Herzegovina has done recently to develop the principles of coexistence and to put in place the principles of peace... in this important area of the Balkans, which is also important to all of Europe,” Macierewicz said on Tuesday.

He added: “We know how important it is to you to secure a roadmap for integration with the European Union and especially with NATO. We understand these aspirations and we certainly support them.”

Pendeš thanked Poland for its support and voiced her hope that the two countries would sign a memorandum on defence cooperation next year.

Macierewicz was in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of an official three-day tour of the Balkans. Earlier he visited Croatia, Montenegro and Albania.
