The couple, 74-year-old Stanisław Dąbrowny and his 67-year-old wife Elżbieta, were in the middle of an around-the-world cruise when contact with their sailboat was abruptly lost on Thursday evening, according to their daughter.

The sailors were due to have arrived in Barbados from Madeira on Friday, their daughter said on social media.

She has alerted search and rescue services in Barbados as well as the Polish foreign ministry, according to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

The sailors, from Gdańsk in northern Poland, set off on their cruise in May, expecting to complete it in four years, IAR reported.
