In a video address, the presidential couple called for support of the Caritas charity, which sells candles to raise money to help give poor children in Poland hot school dinners, educational support and vacations.

During the 2017 edition of the campaign, 10 groszy -- or about three Euro cents – from each candle sold will be sent to South America for nutrition programmes, child and youth centres, and scholarships for children living in slums, as well as to support Polish missionaries.

The charity has been selling candles and helping poor children for more than 20 years. Since 2000, the drive has been co-run by the Protestant and Orthodox Churches. (vb/pk)
