Mateusz Morawiecki was to meet Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker.

On Friday, Morawiecki was to meet French President Emmanuel Macron.

The first day of the summit was expected to focus on defence policy and migration.

On Friday, the leaders of 27 EU countries, excluding Britain, were expected to discuss the UK’s divorce from the bloc and reforms in the eurozone.

A new Polish government led by Morawiecki gained a vote of confidence in the Polish parliament late on Tuesday.

Morawiecki outlined his new Cabinet’s priorities in a policy speech earlier that day, telling MPs his government would focus both on economic development and on helping poorer citizens.
