"Here in Kuwait ... you are fulfilling our obligations as an ally, for which we are immensely grateful," Duda told the troops at Al Jaber air base on Thursday.

He said their mission showed that Poland was a reliable NATO ally, one capable of providing other countries with security and support.

He thanked the servicemen and extended Christmas greetings.

The Polish military contingent in Kuwait numbers 147 troops as well as three military employees. Their main task is to provide air reconnaissance as part of Operation Inherent Resolve using four multi-purpose F-16 fighters.
