Poland's new Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz and his British counterpart have vowed to work together closely, including on security and "Eastern policy," the foreign ministry in Warsaw has said.

Czaputowicz, who was appointed foreign minister earlier this week following a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle, spoke on the phone with Britain’s Boris Johnson on Thursday.

“The call took place at the request of the British side,” the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.

It added: “The ministers declared that they will continue to work closely together in all fields, including security and Eastern policy. They also agreed to hold a personal meeting as soon as possible, and committed themselves to continuing joint visits to the European Union's Eastern neighbourhood.”

The foreign ministry in Warsaw said Czaputowicz and Johnson “took note of the excellent state and intensity” of bilateral relations.

Johnson also “reiterated his recognition for the Polish community in the UK,” which numbers around 1 million.
