Russian ex-spy and EU agenda discussed by Polish, Slovak PMs

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his new Slovak counterpart Peter Pellegrini discussed the poisoning of a Russian ex-spy in the UK and the European Union budget in a telephone conversation on Wednesday.

The pair also discussed the main issues affecting the European Union, according to a press statement from the Polish prime minister's office.

The statement also said that Morawiecki invited his counterpart to visit Warsaw and that Pellegrini promised to take him up on the offer.

Pellegrini was selected to replace Smer party leader and former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after the latter stepped down following the murder of a journalist near Bratislava.

The brutal death of Jan Kuciak, who had been investigating government corruption, and his fiancee led to mass protests and demands for a snap election. (vb/pk)
