The Independent enthuses about Polish city of Łódź

Britain's The Independent website has recommended the city of Łódź, central Poland, as one of its top weekend destinations. It urges visitors to “discover one of the coolest European cities you’ve probably never heard of.”

The website writes that the city, a 19th-century industrial powerhouse which fell into a slump after World War II, has undergone far-reaching transformations.
“Derelict buildings are transformed with murals. Textile mills are now villages with hotels, boutiques, restaurants and al fresco bars. Brilliantly, because it attracts more business than leisure travellers, flights and hotel rates are lower at weekends; Łódź is a real bargain.”
The Independent lists the city’s neo-Renaissance Grand Hotel, the Walk of Fame with pavement stars for such celebrities as pianist Arthur Rubinstein and film director Roman Polański, the Museum of Modern Art and the Manufaktura shopping, dining and entertainment complex as the city’s main attractions.
