The two prime ministers will discuss security, defence and infrastructure and are also expected to focus on a range of EU matters, including the bloc’s budget for 2021-2027, in addition to the development of the digital market and migration.

Pellegrini is to present the key assumptions of Slovakia’s rotating presidency of the regional Visegrad Group, due to begin on July 1.

The meeting comes as part of Poland’s efforts to tighten political and economic relations with its closest allies, the government spokesperson in Warsaw, Joanna Kopcińska, has said.

Pellegrini became the prime minister of Slovakia in March, replacing Robert Fico.

Fico stepped down from office following mass protests triggered by the death of journalist Jan Kuciak and his partner Martina Kusnirova, both of whom were killed in February.
