Speaking to conservative broadcaster Radio Maryja on Sunday, Duda called for curbing the veto power, saying that various initiatives and concrete measures were blocked due the practice of vetoing resolutions.

Poland is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“It’s enough to realise that resolutions on Syria were blocked by a veto 12 times,” Duda said.

“Even projects related to the use of chemical weapons were vetoed and as a result no resolution was passed on the issue,” he added.

Duda said amending the rules would be a challenge as the UN Security Council permanent members, China, France, Russia, the United States and Britain, were against such changes.

Reforming the UN Security Council has been an issue for 25 years, although no solutions have been worked out as yet, Poland's Rzeczpospolita daily said.
