Suspected Russian spy detained in Oslo: report

A 51-year-old Russian has been detained in Oslo on suspiscions of "illegal spy activity" during an international conference in Norway's parliament, Poland's niezalezna.pl website reported, citing Norwegian police.

The man faces up to three years in jail, the website reported.

According to niezalezna.pl, the Russian man "acted illegally" during the conference on digitization and cybersecurity last week.

The website cited Norwegian media as reporting that the man's behaviour was suspicious and that Norwegian security services got involved.

The Russian foreign ministry and the Russian embassy in Norway confirmed on Sunday that a Russian national had been detained, niezalezna.pl reported.

Meanwhile, the attorney of a Norwegian national and fomer border guard detained in Russia over spying allegations has suggested the man hopes a spy swap may be possible between the countries, the website added.
