Andrzej Duda is scheduled to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during the two-day visit starting on Monday.

Duda is also expected to discuss the contested Nord Stream 2 pipeline, according to Krzysztof Szczerski, a senior aide to the Polish head of state.

The 1,200-kilometre Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is scheduled for completion in 2019, is expected to supply around 55 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, circumventing Poland, the Baltic states and Ukraine. The project is opposed by Warsaw.

Germany's Merkel was in Warsaw in March shortly after the formation of a new government in Berlin.
