US ambassador wants visa requirement for Poles revoked

The US ambassador to Poland has said that she wants visa requirements for Poles waived within 18 months, according to a report by news portal onet.pl

In an interview for onet.pl, Georgette Mosbacher said the US should not have a visa requirement for Poles and that it should “absolutely” be withdrawn.
She said making visa-free US travel possible for Poles was one of her priorities as ambassador, onet.pl reported.
She added that Poles deserved to travel to America visa-free, onet.pl said.
A US consul in April said that Poles may be able to travel to the US visa-free by the end of the year, but that the visa application refusal rate for Poles would have to fall below America's 3 percent threshold.
According to the US State Department, American consulates in Warsaw and Kraków last year rejected 5.9% of visa applications submitted by Poles, while in 2016 they rejected a record-low 5.37%.
Mosbacher stepped into the role of ambassador last month.
She is a personal friend of US President Donald Trump. (vb/pk)
