Speaking at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, on Thursday, Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said that “since the beginning of its democratic transformation, it has been Poland’s priority to consistently develop the human rights protection system, democratic standards and the rule of law.”

Czaputowicz also said, as quoted by the Polish foreign ministry, that Poland “has always shared the values” underlying the Council of Europe, a human rights organisation composed of 47 European states.

In his speech, Czaputowicz outlined Poland’s assessment of the organisation’s priorities and challenges, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

He argued that the challenges of the modern world and changes in the international situation meant that the Council of Europe “must enforce its values and principles to an even greater extent,” the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.
