Poland to join UN business sustainability initiative

The United Nations Global Compact aims to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies.

During a press conference at a UN climate conference in the southern Polish city of Katowice, Kwieciński said the Polish government "would like Polish companies to be involved in the most important international initiatives."

"Showing that Polish companies care about the environment, sustainability, is an important factor increasing the companies' competitiveness on international markets," Kwieciński added.

After a break on Sunday, politicians and experts from almost 200 countries gathered at the United Nations’ COP24 conference were resuming discussing ways of tackling global warming.

Environment ministers were expected to present their countries’ official stance.

Meanwhile, an OECD report entitled “Financing Climate Futures: Rethinking Infrastructure” was presented in the Polish pavilion at the conference.

Polish gas and oil giant PGNiG was also to present a report on gas being the “destination fuel for the green economy," according to cop24.gov.pl website.

The 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, also known as COP24, officially opened in Katowice last week and runs until December 14.

Speaking at the official opening of the summit, the Polish president said his country was "ready to take its share of responsibility for international security," including in terms of climate policy.
