Brazil’s President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, a right-wing politician and former military officer, was due to take office on New Year’s Day after an election win on promises of cracking down on rampant crime and corruption.

Bolsonaro was elected the next president of Brazil after winning a run-off vote by a comfortable margin over a leftist rival on October 28.

While in Brazil, Poland’s Czaputowicz was also scheduled to meet that country’s new Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo and Government Secretary Carlos Alberto Dos Santos Cruz, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

On the sidelines of the presidential swearing-in ceremony, Czaputowicz was expected to hold talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Peruvian Foreign Minister Néstor Popolizio Bardales, the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.
