US vice president to start visit to Poland

US Vice President Mike Pence is on Wednesday due to start a three-day visit to Poland to attend a conference on the Middle East and for bilateral talks.

While in Warsaw, Pence is scheduled to meet Polish leaders, including President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

He is also expected to take part in the signing of an agreement on the purchase by Poland of 20 HIMARS artillery rocket systems from the United States.

On Thursday, Pence is scheduled to give keynote remarks at an international conference co-hosted by the United States and Poland and known as the Ministerial to Promote a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East.

On Friday, Pence is due to visit the former Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau together with President Duda.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived and held talks with Poland's Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz in Warsaw on Tuesday.
