Magierowski was standing outside the embassy when a man started physically and verbally assaulting him, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing Hebrew website Ynet.

The Jerusalem Post said on its website that the Polish embassy immediately filed a complaint to the Israeli police, while Magierowski filed a complaint to the country’s foreign ministry.

The Israeli foreign ministry contacted the police and asked them and the authorities charged with security of foreign embassies in Tel Aviv to treat the incident with the utmost importance, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Magierowski managed to take a photo of the attacker and his vehicle, thanks to which the man was detained 90 minutes later, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The paper noted on its jpost.com website that the attack on the Polish ambassador comes amid a diplomatic spat between Poland and Israel.

The Polish foreign ministry this week canceled a planned visit by Israeli officials to Warsaw amid concerns that Israel wanted talks to focus on restitution of property that once belonged to Jews.
