“Europe should be shaped collectively. No country should be excluded,” said Czaputowicz at a conference called Europaforum held by Germany’s foreign ministry and German public broadcaster WDR in Berlin on Thursday.

Czaputowicz outlined a vision for the future of the EU which links economic freedom with cooperation, and flags protectionism as a key threat to the bloc.

“We should push for the integration of the services sector and fight fiscal fraud,” said Czaputowicz.

He also argued that national parliaments should have more influence on the decision-making process in the EU.

The top Polish diplomat said that the EU’s international position stems from its economic strength and innovations, and the common values it promotes.

The 22nd International WDR Europaforum comes three days ahead of European Parliament elections in Poland and Germany.
