The traffickers, who are reportedly linked to two Polish crime families, tricked people from Poland into moving to the UK with the promise of work, the British broadcaster said.

“Police believe there were more than 400 victims put to work by the gang in the West Midlands [of England]. They were made to live in rat-infested houses for little or no pay,” the BBC reported on its website.

Five people were sentenced and jailed in March during two trials only made public on Friday, while three more were sentenced on Friday, one of whom remains on the run, the BBC reported.

Gang members have been convicted of slavery, trafficking and money-laundering and face from three to 11 years in prison, according to the broadcaster.
