Ahmed El-Mallul, who works as a surgeon in a hospital in Lodz, central Poland, told the TVN24 news station that he informs the Polish Government about the progress of the insurgency.

“Everyday I have contact with the people there [in Libya],” he said.

On his talks with the Polish government, Ahmed El-Mallul says that he keeps the Foreign Ministry up-to-date on the latest news from the rebels and “we also tried to organise some humanitarian assistance”.

As the insurgency has reportedly control of 95 percent of Tripoli and the hunt is on for Col. Gaddafi and his top henchmen, El-Mallul says that his people are ripe for democracy.

“After 42 years of torment everyone is waiting for democracy and the possibilities of peaceful development,” he told TVN 24.

El-Mallul predicts a period of up to “eight months” for a parliament to be formed and a new constitution to be put in place.

Meanwhile, the French Paris Match reports that Libyan rebels came close to capturing the toppled leader on Wednesday when they raided a private home in Tripoli where he appeared to have been hiding,

Citing a source in a unit which it said was coordinating among intelligence services from Arab states and Libyan rebels, the French weekly said on its website that these services believed Gaddafi was still somewhere in the Libyan capital. (pg/mzj)
