Angelina Jolie makes surprise visit to Auschwitz

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to the former Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on Saturday.

However, it appears that the trip was so secret that the public museum located on the site is itself reluctant to reveal details of the visit.

“I neither confirm nor deny [this information],” said Tomasz Sawicki,a spokesman for the museum, after Polish tabloid Fakt pursued the story.

According to witnesses, Jolie explored the former Nazi German death camp alone, without any security guards.

Jolie, who is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is noted for her commitment to humanitarian work, although it is unclear whether her visit was personal, or directly connected to her charity work or a specific film project.

The Hollywood star is currently involved in post-production on her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, a project about the Bosnian War of 1992-1995. (nh/pg)
