US and Polish troops to open five new Afghan bases

The US, fearing a rise in Taliban activity in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan will send an extra 3,000 troops to strengthen the role of Polish troops in the area.

“The new troops will be stationed in five dangerous districts, governor of Ghazni province Musa Akbarzadah has told the Wakht news agency.

The new bases in the Ghazni province, which Poland controls alongside Afghan security forces, will be built in the Vaez, Zanjan, Moqor, Abband and Qarabagh districts.

Poland currently has 2,500 troops in the country and intends to pull out of the Afghanistan in 2014. (pg)
