Marilyn Monroe photos auctioned in Warsaw
PR dla Zagranicy
Over 200 photos by the celebrity photographer Milton H. Greene are offered for sale at the DESA Unicum auction house in Warsaw on Thursday.
Most of them depict the actress Marilyn Monroe, who met Greene in 1949 and hailed his photos of herself as the best she has ever had. The remaining photographs feature such stars as Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, Lisa Minelli and Marlene Dietrich.
The starting price for the photos is between several hundred and a few thousand zlotys. Greene’s photos recently fetched up to $ 14, 000 at international auctions.
The photos auctioned today by DESA Unicum come from Greene’s collection of 3, 780 photographs, which is owned by Poland in the wake of an embezzlement scandal of the early 1990s.
An American businessman Dino Matingas, who was accused of cheating Poland out of millions of dollars, gave the collection to Poland in partial repayment for Poland’s losses. Its value is estimated at $ 680, 000. (mk/pg)
