The 19-year-old singer descended on the Lodz stage - sporting a pair of futuristic angels' wings - as part of his long-running Believe World Tour, which takes in over a hundred gigs around the globe.

“I'm here for the first time, it's nice to be with you,” Bieber told his Polish fans.

Local paper Dziennik Lodzki noted that screams of adoration continued unabated “throughout the entire performance.”

At the close of the concert, the singer honoured pop star etiquette by tearing off his shirt and tossing it into the audience.

After releasing his debut album in 2009, Bieber swiftly became one of the best-paid singers in show business. Last year, Forbes magazine named him as the third most powerful celebrity in the world.

His next stop is Munich on 28 March. (nh)
