Jackowski, who was 66, had been immersed in recording new solo music, and on Saturday morning the guitarist wrote a final post on his Facebook profile.
“Dear friends and correspondents, if I don't reply, it means that I'm working in the studio. I'll catch up in a free moment. For the time being, I wish you all a pleasant and sunny Saturday and Sunday.”
Jackowski caught the rock n roll bug in the mid-sixties when he heard The Rolling Stones' track Satisfaction on the radio while studying English at the University of Lodz, in central Poland.
He resolved to learn how to play the song himself.
Jackowski later switched to study at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and it was there, besides other musical ventures, that he formed the key band of his career, Maanam, with Milo Kurtis.
The band began by playing in a mystical, laid back vein, but later switched to a more urgent rock style, chiming in with the new wave.
The lead singer of the band, Kora, who Jackowski married, became one of the iconic figures of the eighties in Poland.
Kora left Jackowski in the mid-eighties and the band disintegrated.
However, after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, the band enjoyed a reunion that lasted until 1998.
Jackowski is survived by his second wife Ewa, as well as a son, Mateusz, from his first marriage, and three daughters from his second marriage. (nh)
