The exhibition consists of over a dozen monumental wooden sculptures made of hollowed tree trunks in which the artist placed large-size photos depicting members of her family.

Emilie Benes Brzezinski describes herself as an American artist of Central European descent and is mother to MSNBC TV journalist Mika Brzezinski.

“I am ever amazed,” she says, “how my culture of origin has influenced my work. Too long I was blind to those origins, possibly because I never lived in the home country of my parents,” says the Swiss-born artist of Czech origin.

“I have one foot in America, and another foot, a very important one, in Central Europe,” she adds.

Emilie Brzezinski is a grandniece of Czechoslovakia’s former president Edvard Benes and the wife of Polish-born Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served as President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser.

The exhibition also features a selection of his drawings which were created during the meetings and conferences in which he had participated as a politician.
Emilie and Zbigniew Brzezinski attended the opening ceremony.

The exhibition runs until 15 September and had earlier been shown in New York, Dresden and Prague. (mk/pg)
