The 1980s veterans have enjoyed cult status in Poland since the Cold War era – the band's moody synth sounds were a huge hit in the Eastern bloc, notably in East Germany, and the band continues to command more respect in Central Europe than in Britain.

Depeche Mode are currently touring Europe promoting latest album Delta Machine, the group's thirteenth studio album, and Polish fans have some surprises up their sleeves for the band.

“Depeche Mode has an exceptionally large and committed group of fans in Poland,” said band devotee Sylwia Gorajek in an interview with the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

“We've prepared some initiatives to welcome the band,” she promised. (nh)
