Virtuoso pianist Blechacz releases new CD

A new CD by the Polish piano virtuoso Rafal Blechacz has hit the market, featuring seven polonaises by Fryderyk Chopin composed between 1835 and 1846, including the most popular among them – in A major and A flat major.

This is Blechacz’s fifth CD under an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon which he signed in 2006, a year after winning the Chopin International Competition in Warsaw.

Previous discs have featured Chopin’s Preludes, his Piano Concertos with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam under the famous Polish conductor Jerzy Semkow, a selection of sonatas by the Viennese classics, and works by Claude Debussy and the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski.

In coming weeks and months Blechacz is billed in the United States, Holland and Japan.

In addition to developing a spectacular concert career, he is devoting much time to his another passion. Several years ago he began to study philosophy at the University of Toruń. He recently presented a paper on the logic of musical composition. (mk/jb)
