Theatre tops up Open'er rock fest

Cutting edge theatrical ensembles have been booked to perform alongside international rock and pop acts at this year's Open'er Festival in Gdynia, northern Poland.

Director Maja Kleczewska will be bringing her acclaimed production of Winter Journey (Winterreise) by Austrian Nobel Prize-winning scribe Elfriede Jelinek.
The performance will be a co-production by the Teatr Polski in Bydgoszcz, and the the Teatr Powszechny in Lodz.
Likewise, festival-goers can savour a modern twist on 19th classic Forefathers Eve (Dziady), by national bard Adam Mickiewicz.
Director Radoslaw Rychcik cabaret-style concoction is peopled with unlikely characters such as Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and John Lennon.
Meanwhile, on the main stage, this year's line-up includes The Black Keys, Interpol, Pearl Jam and Phoenix.
The Open'er Festival runs from 2 to 5 July. (nh)
