New 'Warsaw 44' trailer released

Komasa's film Warsaw 44 (Miasto 44), which has been partly funded by the Polish Film Institute (PISF), is one of the most costly Polish films in recent years, with a budget of 24 million zloty (5.8 million euro).

The 32-year-old director, who penned the script himself, picked a cast of unknowns to play the leading characters.

The 63-day shoot echoed the length of the doomed insurgency itself, with the Polish underground ultimately capitulating after over150,000 civilians died together with16,000 insurgents.

Komasa has been tipped as one of the brightest young talents in the Polish film industry. Veteran directors Andrzej Wajda and Roman Polanski both lavished praise on his 2011 debut feature The Suicide Room (Sala Sambojcow)

Special effects for Warsaw 44 were fine-tuned by Hollywood specialist Richard Bain, who worked on such movies as Peter Jackson's King Kong, Christopher Nolan's Inception and Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

The premiere of Warsaw 44 will be held on 1 August at the National Stadium in Warsaw, marking the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the insurgency. The film will go on general release on 19 September. (nh/pg)
