Goths and steampunks enjoyed a weekend of gloom-tinged revelry at the annual Castle Party in Bolkow, south west Poland.

The event, which dubs itself a 'dark independent festival', has been drawing fancifully dressed rockers to the Lower Silesian town since 1994.

Concerts are staged at the foot of the town's imposing ruined castle, which was built in the 13th century and sacked 400 years later during the Thirty Years War.

With baking temperatures across Poland, goths took advantage of the vast swimming pool adjoining the town's camp site.

“We'll have to double-check this, but quite possibly we have the most gothic swimming pool in the world,”festival organisers quipped on the festival's Facebook page.

Naturally, black swimsuits predominated.

Bands playing at this year's event include The 69 Eyes, Moonspell, London After Midnight, Grendel, Blindead, Thy Disease and Theodor Bastard, among many others.

The four-day Castle Party at Bolkow winds up on Sunday night. (nh)
