The event will see films shown in 15 Polish cities, including Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Krakow.

Around 50 films are expected to be shown during the course of the festival, including several animated ones.

The festival is being organized by the New Horizons Association, the team behind the internationally renowned T-Mobile New Horizons festival in Wroclaw.

The event will be dedicated to both children and their parents.

Ambassadors of the festival include the actors Maja Ostaszewska (Jack Strong) and Adam Woronowicz (The Reverse), as well as the vocalist Novika.

Commenting to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), mother of two Ostaszewska said that “this is a fantastic initiative,” adding that young cinema-goers were being treated “seriously.”

The actress enthused that “there are beautiful films with important messages” in the programme, and that the event “will be an excellent reason for parents to talk with children about some important topics.”

According to her the organizers are hoping to attract entire families to the festival, not just children.

The planned films include Superbrat, A friend on the balcony and Take me with you.

Some, such as the The Gruffalo's Child, will be suitable for children as young as five.

The festival will also include workshops for children and special ‘film breakfasts’ in some selected cafes.

A second edition is already being planned for next year. (sl)
