Award-winning production Othello: The Remix is the creation of Chicago-based ensemble The Q Brothers.

The group's self-styled 'add-RAP-tations' have garnered praise in the bard's British homeland, and Othello: The Remix won two gongs at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012.

“Despite the apparent difference of these art forms – one hatched on the streets of 70s America, the other written in Elizabethan and Jacobean London – both reflect cultures preoccupied with power, machismo and status,” UK paper The Guardian reflected, adding that the production is “well-paced, sophisticated and, at times, very funny.”

The 18th Shakespeare Festival is being held at the newly relaunched Shakespeare Theatre in Gdansk, drawing ensembles from across the globe.

“In our theatre, we want to be open to all artistic concepts, provided that they are based on professionalism and they have a certain of artistic level, ” festival director Jerzy Limon told Polish Radio.

The festival runs until 5 October. (nh)
