Museum of Modernity opens in Olsztyn

The EU-funded Museum of Modernity has opened in the former industrial district of Olsztyn, northern Poland.

The museum, which is located in a former lumber mill, aims to acquaint visitors with the region's industrial leaps forward during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Marek Marcinkowski, director of the Municipal Cultural Centre, noted that besides covering “the age of steam, electricity and gas in the Olsztyn region,” the museum also delves into the worlds of cinema and radio, and communications systems.

Exhibits on show include items from state archives in Olsztyn and Gdansk, as well as private donors.
“Many more people are already coming forward with very interesting items,” commented Janusz Cyganski, curator of the permanent exhibition.
“Because at last there is a place that they can be deposited and displayed in,” he added.
The cost of the entire investment is 5.4 million zloty (1.2 million euro) of which 3.6 million zloty (856,320 euro) came from thr EU. (nh)
