Bookworms will have the opportunity to meet about 600 authors at the four-day fair, and countless new tomes are being launched to coincide with the event.

Among the noted international guests attending the fair this year are celebrated Russian crime fiction master Boris Akunin (Saturday, 1pm), Spaniard Jaume Cabre (Saturday, 3pm,) and Israeli Etgar Keret (Saturday, 3pm).

Polish writers taking part include Andrzej Stasiuk (Saturday, 1pm), Olga Tokarczuk (Satiurday, 4pm and Sunday, 12 am) and Andrzej Pilipiuk (Saturday, 12 am).

One of the novelties this year is the Salon of Children's Publishers. Among the star guests in this section is award-winning UK-based illustrator Jan Pienkowski (Meg and Mog, Haunted House), who is here with his first ever book in Polish translation, a collection of Polish fairy tales.

Pienkowski, together with David Walser, who wrote the tales, will be attending the fair on Saturday at midday, before taking part in a workshop at 2pm in central Krakow at the Wyspianski Pavilion.

The 18th International Krakow Book Fair runs until 26 October at the Exhibition and Convention Centre EXPO Krakow (Galicyjska 9).

The event's official web page has detailed information on all publishers taking part in the event. (nh)
