Fans of UK rock legend Morrissey are demanding their money back after the singer stormed off a Warsaw club stage just 25 minutes into his gig.

According to event organiser Live Nation, the former Smiths frontman took offence after being heckled by a member of the crowd.

''One of the spectators standing close to the stage said some extremely offensive and chauvinistic things to the artist,'' the company explained.

Although most fans could not hear what was said, they sensed that something was awry when the singer turned his back on them for the entirety of what turned out to be the last song.

Live Nation has offered disgruntled fans the opportunity to attend the singer's Friday concert in Krakow free of charge.

However, most are calling for their money to be returned, while simultaneously venting their ire on the Facebook page of Warsaw's Stodola club, which hosted the gig.

Some had come from as far afield as Berlin.

''He's been performing on stage all these years and he still hasn't grasped that amongst several hundred people there's always one arse?'' a fan wrote.

''This is basic lack of professionalism and diva behaviour,'' she continued.

It is not the first time that Morrissey has quit the stage somewhat earlier than expected.

In 2009, he brought a Liverpool gig to a close in the middle of the second song after someone chucked a plastic bottle at him.

A year later, at the Coachella festival, the singer upped sticks after smelling meat from a stall near the stage. He explained that being a vegetarian, he could not tolerate such odours. (nh)
