The church of Prószków claims the dispenser, activated by movement sensors, improves hygiene for the faithful who have been informed of the technological advance but have so far mostly opted to continue using the traditional font.

“Some people prefer to duck their hands into the font with holy water” on entering the church, the parish priest said.

The high-tech device sends the priest text messages to his mobile phone, keeping him abreast of the holy-water level, when it needs to be replaced and how many of flock have used it.

The device was developed by a local entrepreneur. (an)
