Idziak, who made his mark collaborating with Krzysztof Kieślowski on movies such as A Short Film About Killing and Three Colours: Blue is currently one of the most sought after cinematographers in Hollywood, with credits such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down to his name.

The main competition of Off Plus Camera sees 10 films (nine international and one Polish) compete for the Kraków Film Award, with the winner receiving a cheque for USD 100,000.

Only debut and second features are eligible for the contest. Meanwhile, there is a separate Polish film competition, likewise comprising ten movies, as well as themed sections exploring trends in international cinema.

The festival, which is hosted in art-house and independent cinemas, has drawn some of the biggest stars in the film world in recent years, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tim Roth and Luc Besson.

This year's event runs from 1 May to 10 May. (nh)
