Biuro Podróży, one of Poland’s most internationally successful theatre companies and a regular recipient of the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First award, was due to perform at a festival in the southern Russian city of Voronezh.

The festival’s organisers told the theatre its permission to perform was withdrawn.

Last year, the theatre performed at the same festival without problems.

Biuro Podróży were planning to show a performance inspired by Orwell’s Animal Farm, in which piglets learn from older pigs that they are being raised for slaughter and organise a revolution. (an)
